Avoid repetition

Please, can you come up with a way to effectively prohibit the AI from overusing certain phrases and constantly repeating itself? I don’t want the phrase “with mechanical precision” to appear in every single chapter, sometimes twice per chapter. If there was a way to track certain expressions through all the chapters, it would be very helpful. I write the banned words and expressions in “extra instructions” in the draft, but it’s largely ignored. Thank you.

    YES!
Every character is named Blackwood or Thornwood, and every organization is Azure something. Stop it!

This is a HUGE problem in Sudowrite. The only way I can get around it is to instruct to not repeat past descriptions.

Or everything is heavy oak or brass knobs. We have to take all of the suggestion and cut things from it that we know we wouldn’t use as authors. I get so frustrated with some of them that I don’t use any of it. Why do the men always have calloused hands? Weathered faces? All of these need changed or at least, find a way where we can use ONLY what we want and not get credits taken away when we don’t like some it. I like Sudowrite because it gives great sentence structure, but it overuses a lot words a lot of us authors do not use if we want it in our voices. The AI does not keep up with what I’ve written. It has changed names and ALWAYS has a truck as a Ford F-150. Let me put my own vehicle in without having to change it. AI doesn’t need to name the truck. It needs a lot of work yet.

You can do this perfectly well by using Worldbuilding cards. Most people seem to think it’s about teaching the AI about what words not to use, i.e., a banned list of words or a blacklist, but that is less effective than giving a set of guidelines for it to follow. After all, if you remove all the banned words then that’s not really real life, is it? The point is to train the AI to reflect a more realistic version of actual dialog or prose as if it had been written by you or me. By setting up cards you can then reload those, if you set up a CSV template, time and again for each new project in a matter of minutes, and they have the advantage of being able to be turned on and off as and when you need them according to what you’re writing at the time, i.e., what the chapter requires. You can then have a core set of traits in one card and another card for spicy writing, say, that you can turn on when required.

I’m not sure I understand what you mean here. I use the Worldbuilding cards to create settings or slang or things unique to my world, but what am I missing about getting it not to repeat certain phrases (if someone works with “focused precision” one more time…)

YES, I roll my eyes so hard every time I see “with practiced efficiency” generated. There should be a place to set universal ground rules on word usage. We know what sounds like AI, but can’t tinker with it to avoid the tells.

Yes, and the word hums or phrase humming.

I proposed this feature 9 months ago, if it were a baby it would be born already. They put it in the planned stage 8 months ago
